MISSION

We transform plant waste into regenerative biological solutions for turf and agriculture. We aim to reduce reliance on environmentally degrading practices and add value to customers through biology.

We focus on where biology can add unique value to customers. This means we use our technology to develop products with characteristics unobtainable from the incumbents. We use multistage bioprocessing with combinations of fermentation and cell-free enzymatic processing to create products with unrivaled precision and bioactivity.

Our products are made in the USA and contain only plant/fermentation derived ingredients. We are passionate about increasing America's domestic manufacturing and increasing supply chain resilience. Our manufacturing process focuses on reusability and circular solutions with renewable plant waste inputs and no harsh processing chemicals.

Thaddaus and Michael quickly became friends (and later roommates) in 2011 at Colorado State University during a graduate school class focused on the technology, economics, and policy of bioenergy. Thaddaus went on to specialize in protein engineering and Michael focused on studying photosynthetic efficiency. After graduate school, Thaddaus went on to do a post-doc at the University of Washington Institute for Protein Design where he was a WRF Innovation Postdoctoral Fellow. Michael went on to do a post-doc at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, CO. Our shared passions for regenerative agriculture, soil health, and mushrooms and vision to expand the synthetic biology footprint in Colorado - led us to reunite and start Colorado Biofactory.

 

We are building a team of biological engineers, fermentation fanatics, and mushroom lovers who believe in the power of fungi to create a more sustainable future.
